I think that I have been in slight denial about the fact that my baby is turning two. That and the fact that it was Easter yesterday have kind of put her special day in a tailspin! I have been trying to make it special for her, but when they are two you wonder if they even grasp the fact! Anyway, since I am at work and feeling like I need to do something special for her, I am resorting to writing her a birthday blog!
Happy Birthday Emma! You are a very special little girl! You bring joy to many people, mostly me and your dad, I think. He often turns to me after playing with you and says, "I love being a Dad!" And I love being your mom. I am excited to be able to spend more time with you as I long for your presence while I am at work now. Only a few more days! That is a birthday present to you, I suppose!
For your future knowledge, some of your favorite things right now are: Little Einsteins, riding bikes, and playing on any playground! You beg both me and your Dad to go outside every day! You are very smart. You know all of your letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. And you are a genius (In your mom's opinion) because you can already read five words: Emma, Cat, Dog, Mom, and Dad! You love to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I Am a Child of God, I Love to See the Temple, I Hope They Call Me on a Mission, and the theme song to Little Einsteins. Your favorite foods are yogurt, cereal, potatoes, cheese, macaroni and cheese, pizza, and fruit snacks. You are a very well tempered little girl - you sleep well, but are fighting nap time lately! You love to play with your cousins and your friend Jack! We all love you very much!

Ketchup - Catch Up
Sadly, it has been forever since I have blogged. It is always hard to come back, especially when it seems like there is so much to cover. I will do my best to catch up!
February 29th was a special leap year event for both my adorable and adoring husband and our good friend Sean – they had a joint birthday celebration doing one of Matt’s all time favorite things, go-cart racing at Winner’s Motorsports. Avoiding a near fall apart of the entire event, Winner’s saved the day and gave us an all around great time. I think Matt was in near paradise, crazy guy. I had to race with all the men, but am happy to report that I held my own. I will refer you to the blogroll and Adam and Jami’s blog for another point of view on the affair. Our viewpoint: one hundred percent success!
This last week Matt and I (mostly Matt) have been frantically making the move into his parent's home. Admittedly, I wasn’t quite ready for the transition, but I think Matt has been feeling a slight ache for home and to ease it chose to move at first chance. It has been crazy. All of our stuff is now strewn between three locations – four if you include mail that is still going to our Farmington house. After more than a week of work, it seems that every time we are about settled, we turn around to find another closet to clean and crap to sort through. It will be awhile….I don’t think I will be able to really settle until approximately April 12th – ish – since the 11th is my official last day of work. If anyone is looking for an amazing full time job – pretty much the best job around – mine is opening up! Give us a holler.
To end out the frantic moving week (which, in reality, will never end) Matt wanted to make a Moab trek. No one would come with us – so Matt, Emma, and I went on our own. Our first official family vaca, just the three (and a half) of us. We stayed in a little KOA cabin. I had heard they were quaint and kind of fun, I just didn’t register the fact that it is still camping! We had a relatively good experience with the lodging. Matt took me on some great jeepin’ trails. He even let me pick one – Kane Creek Canyon - although, I don’t think he will let me pick again since he nearly killed himself on a very treacherous part of the trail (I am not ashamed to tell you that I get out of the jeep during parts of the trail where my life may be in danger – oh and I get Emma out with me). He and I both survived, glory day. After Kane Creek, we spent some time in Arches, the draw there being that my good friend Michelle was up from Oklahoma to camp at the park. I took a long shot to try and track her down and voila! There she was! It was good to see her for a minute! We also saw some great scenery, in abundance at arches, and wore our little Emma out with all the hiking. The next day Matt wanted to do Porcupine Rim, but I have issues with cliffs and heights mixed with death defying maneuvers in a four wheel vehicle – so I talked him out of it and we did the classic Fins and Things. It is always a favorite. While on the trail we ran into the famous Easter Jeep Safari, which is the closest I have come to a celebrity sighting since Apollo – so it was pretty exciting. Wish I could post some pics, but we forgot the camera. Sorry all. Anyway, the trip was really great, a good experience for us – but next time we want some company (Matt wants someone who is not a complete chicken!) So, come with us, okay?
Anyway, I think that pretty much puts us at the present – five days from Easter (who decided to have it this early?) and six from my little one’s second birthday (can you believe it?) Hopefully I will be a better blogger from now on! And hopefully I will have pictures to share next time!

Our First Emergency Room Visit
I had to document the first emergency room visit for our family. This last Wednesday at approximately 8:30pm Matt sliced his pointer finger open with a razor blade. He, of course, didn’t think the cut was that bad, having wrapped it in toilet paper at the scene. When he got home to continue with proper first aid, my suspicions that it was worse than he thought were confirmed as blood began to flow uncontrollably upon the removal of the TP bandage. Those of you who know me well know that I am not that great in emergency situations, but I did my best to keep my composure as we jumped in the Mazda and cruised to McKay-Dee ER. We hadn’t planned very well for all of the blood and at one point Matt was bleeding through what napkins we had and was beginning to drip. In the desire not to get blood all over the car, he stuck is hand out of the window and proceeded to get blood all down the passenger side of the car (Am I getting too graphic for you?)!!!
We finally arrived at the ER and I sent Matt in while I parked. All of the blood had the waiting room in a frenzy – they pretty much thought he had cut his finger off. One old lady almost went home “That young fella cut his finger off, and all that is wrong with me is that I can’t breathe! Let’s just go…” It was pretty humorous when they pulled off the make-shift bandage to find a ¾ inch cut. Apparently he had cut an arterial vein which was causing the blood flow. They got us into a room pretty quick and had him in a finger tourniquet, as it was the only way to get the blood to stop. I did a pretty good job with the support while they stitched him up. I was able to control my nausea, only having to get some fresh air once. It makes for a good story, but in reality the cut only required four stitches.
If you ever want to see pictures, Matt has it pretty well documented on his phone. And remember, as per our doctor’s orders that night, if you ever want to stitch yourself up, the best thing to use is fishing line.

My Week of Eating Out
As I have never eaten out consecutively for seven straight days before (excepting, of course, vacations) I thought I would catalog the locations of my week of eating out.
Tuesday, February 12th: Since it was my birthday, Matt wanted to take me out to eat. Those of you who know me well know that I am very funny about eating out and so the decision was difficult for me. I had seen a sign at Dylan’s earlier in the day for Onion Rings and could not shake the craving so we decided to go to Red Robin and partake of their Onion Ring Tower. So we start driving and the pressure to make the perfect eating out decision gets to me…and I throw out the idea of going to Boston’s. My amazingly accommodating husband comes up with a plan: we go to Boston’s, look at the menu – if they don’t have what we want, we leave and go to Red Robin no damage done. And so we proceed with the plan, see nothing on the menu at Boston’s that can shake the onion ring craving, and head out the door. We are not steps from our car when the manager calls out from the take out entrance: “Hey, do you mind if I ask why you’re leaving?” “Well to be honest, you didn’t have onion rings on your menu!” With a scoff and a smile he proceeds to explain that they just had an appetizer event and had left over onion rings just waiting to be fried. “It’s not on the menu,” he says, “but how about I treat you to some onion rings and you stay and eat with us.” Free onion rings! Yeehaw! And so, we ate at Boston’s for my birthday fete. Overall review: nothing special. I could eat Salmon like that anywhere. The onion rings were okay, but to this day I crave the onion ring tower at Red Robin and a Chicken Teriyaki Burger.
Wednesday, February 13th: I had mentioned to Matt that it would be fun to go out to dinner with my cousins Meggan and Tyler for my birthday – like a reuniting of the infamous “Three Musketeers” from my youth. So, Matt surprised me by making arrangements. Unfortunately, schedules forced us to go to dinner separately with each one. So, Wednesday was Tyler and Cliff’s night. We thought we would be safe meeting at a Sandy location, since they were coming from Provo and we were coming from Kaysville. About four-o-clock rolls around and a demon of a winter storm hits. I suggest to Matt that maybe we shouldn’t go, but he is determined to grant my birthday wish and so we go. As we keep in contact with Tyler and Cliff, we find that they are not making great progress. We call them at 7:00pm, they are in Lehi. We call them at 7:30pm, they are in Lehi. We call them at 8:00pm, they are in Lehi. We call them at 8:30pm, they are in Lehi. At this point we have gone to the chosen restaurant for the evening, Goodwood Barbeque, and have already devoured one appetizer (the Nachos, which were extremely good and come highly recommended). We call Tyler and Cliff at 9:00pm…”I think I can see Thanksgiving Point now.” WHAT! And so we ask what time they close and expect that we will have to meet them at the Sonic next door instead. Miraculously they made it before the ovens were turned off and we had the chance to eat, but we saw them for all of twenty minutes before they had to turn around and drive home. A sad evening, but EXCELLENT food. Overall review: in our opinion, better than Famous Dave’s – particularly the appetizers.
Thursday, February 14th: Happy Valentine’s Day. We have started a family tradition of getting a heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy’s for the day of love and lying pretty low at home. I threw in a Gourmet Veggie Pizza with Chicken which is my new favorite Papa Murphy’s Pizza. Overall Review: if cooked right, Papa Murphy’s is probably some of my favorite pizza. Take and Bake Baby.
Friday, February 15th: This particular evening it was a Pork Salad from Café Rio and some serious Guitar Hero. Overall rating: it rocked – oh and the salad was good too.
Saturday, February 16th: The mid-day meal counts as Week of Eating Out Meal #5. We got Sticky Finger Salads from Wingers. Always good. The evening meal was meal #6 and the second of the birthday arrangements as we were eating with Meggan and Stu (Stew?). To Lonestar we went. I would give it a better review except that they forgot to put in Stew’s order, left the Barbeque sauce off of Matt’s burger, didn’t put tomatoes on Meggan’s Lettuce Wedge, gave me more salad dressing than salad, and never refilled our water glasses. But, the company was great! My birthday wishes were fulfilled! Way to go Matt. Overall review of Lonestar: the food would be better if we didn’t have to stomach the poor service. I will give the guy a break since he was on top of it with Emma’s meal.
My hopes in this entry was to make you sufficiently starving and inform you of where would be best to satisfy yourself. I hope it was successful.

Update Twilie Followers
Holy Crap! I got so excited when I read this press release for Stephenie Meyer's fourth book in the Twilight series I just had to post it for my fellow Twilie's. It gives us a release date for The Host (May 6th), Breaking Dawn (Aug. 2nd), and Twilight the movie (Dec. 12th)!!! A big year for us followers. Pictures of You...
So, I have been meaning to blog about a few pictures for awhile, but we got a new camera and I couldn't get it all figured out, so I am finally getting around to it...
First, Emma got a Mr. Potato Head for Christmas. It was a few days later when we finally got around to playing with it. I took it out and showed her how to put the nose and eyes and lips on, then we added some glasses and off we went. I stopped paying attention to her for a minute and the next thing I know she climbs up on my lap looking like this:
I dragged Matt to Disney on the first day, as stated in the blog below. Rockin' Rollercoaster is our favorite ride, so of course we had to get our picture taken by the giant Geetar.
Favorite memories of this ride actually come from waiting in line. My whole family sang to the Aerosmith song playing over the speakers. Can you just see us belting "I don't wanna miss a thang!??" People stared at first, but found some appreciation and clapped for us at the conclusion of our melody!

We finally got to the boat! We all remarked at Disney how cool it was to think that even after our marathon day at Disney we still had a seven day vacation ahead of us! I think that thought is what got Matt through the marathon Disney day!
I said earlier I would try to post some pictures of the friends that we made on our trip. This is our cabin steward Rizky. I thought it was funny to meet him on the first day...he came and introduced himself to us. I guess I didn't know exactly what a cabin steward was at the time, but man, they are great! I think that was one of my favorite things on the cruise, you got to meet these people and see them over and over again until you felt like they were your little cruise family! It was good times. We had to document it for memory's sake! And now I share it with you!
You didn't think I would do it, huh? Well, I am a woman of my word! Funny thing is that I am making this all happen on the old computer! He he. We waited long weeks for that thing and here I am...
Oh well, I guess that is the nature of life.
PS...I have decided that if I was rich, I would buy you all a cruise. You wouldn't have to go with me or anything (Breathe a sigh of relief!), I just think everyone should have the experience....!

As you may or may not be aware, our computer has been a little tough to live with for the last little while...so tough that it prevented me from writing. However, a solution has been found and I now type to you from our new laptop which is currently providing me with much joy! I hope that it means more and better blogs as it happily responds to my fingertips with ease! Unlike the previous laptop which will now be demoted to Emma's movie viewing machine. Anyway, I had to share the news! Now I just have to transfer photos and we will be in business. Blogathon here I come!
